From the Rubble Creek parking lot, it is a 9 km hike to reach Garibaldi Lake. The first 6km takes you on a switchback mountain trail through forest and plentiful of Western and Red Cedar and Douglas Fir trees. Around the 30 minute mark from the start, there is a creek crossing where you can fill your water bottles. Water along the way is not plentiful, so make sure that you carry enough water with you. The next hour and a half is a rather relentless uphill climb on the switchback trail.
After counting down five gruelling kilometres, you will reach a lookout point over The Barrier. The Barrier is a lava dam that contains the Garibaldi Lake system. A sheer cliff is the result of a massive landslide that happened in 1885. Just beyond the 6km marker, you will find a junction that allows you to either go to the Taylor Meadows campground or Garibaldi Lake. This is a good point to take a break. Keep right at the 6km junction and follow the trail towards Garibaldi Lake. At this point, most of the elevation gain will be behind you. During you final 3km towards Garibaldi Lake, you will pass Barrier Lake and Lesser Garibaldi Lake. These lakes are providing a taste of what is to come.
A few small creeks, feeding into Lesser Garibaldi Lake, crisscross the trail along the way to Garibaldi Lake. After you have passed Lesser Garibaldi Lake, you'll cross a wooden bridge over Taylor Creek. After 20 minutes, you will come to another junction that leads to either Taylor Meadows or Garibaldi Lake. Stay on the trail for Garibaldi Lake. You will start descending towards Garibaldi Lake. A spectacular view of the pristine turquoise Garibaldi Lake and Sphinx glacier awaits you.
Start making your way down towards the parking lot so the you will be in time for our departure at 17:00pm. You will arrive back in Vancouver around 18:30pm filled with unforgettable memories!

Phantom lake is a dazzling turquoise-colored glacial lake hanging high in the Coast Mountains. At one end, water feeds into the lake from the ancient glaciers of Mt Jimmy Jimmy and Tzoonie Mountain while at the other, it escapes via a towering cascading waterfall. When you fly past it, you'll feel like you are in a movie!
Even though Phantom Lake is only a 20 minute flight from Squamish Airport, its location makes it inaccessible for most people. The seclusion of Phantom Lake is one of the reasons why it is loved by people who want to wander off the beaten path.

Canada Place is located downtown Vancouver near all the major transportation hubs. The Welcome Kiosk at Canada Place is pictured below.
The Stawamus Chief ('The Chief') is one of the most popular day hikes near Vancouver. It is also one of the best rock climbing spots in British Columbia. Simply referred to as 'The Chief', it is a giant granite monolith that towers high above the coastal town of Squamish, offering breathtaking views of Howe Sound and several mountains in Garibaldi Provincial Park.
The Chief has three separate summits that hikers can climb: the South (Peak 1), the Centre (Peak 2), and the North (Peak 3). Each summit can be done individually, or if you feel more ambitious, you can do all three. Most hikers choose to do the shorter trip to the South Peak as it offers spectacular views over the ocean and mountains. The Chief gets snow during the winter, but due to its relatively low elevation and proximity to the ocean, it does not get as much as other nearby mountains. It enjoys a fairly long hiking season and the trail is normally free of snow in early spring.
The start of the trail is located near Squamish, about 1 hour's drive from Vancouver. There is no public transport between Vancouver and trailhead to The Chief. From the parking lot, join the trail and head up the stairs. For the first 30 to 45 minutes, the trail climbs steadily uphill over wooden steps. You will get to a junction where you will have to keep left. After another 10 minutes, you will reach a junction where you can choose to go left to the South Peak, or go right to the Centre and North Peaks. All 3 peaks can be completed in approximately 5 hours or if you prefer a shorter trip, the hike to the South Peak will take about 3.5 hours.
A spectacular view awaits where an enormous slab of granite hangs overtop of the trail. Walk up the stairs to where the forest opens up and gives way to the exposed rock at the summit of The Chief. The Chief is the second largest granite monolith in the world (i.e. it is one giant granite rock) and provides the platform for stunning views over Howe Sound and the surrounding mountains.
Make your way back in time for the departure of the bus to Vancouver. LIVV Adventures provide an affordable, frequent and convenient day trip to The Chief during the summer months. No other public transport exists between Vancouver and The Chief.
